Who is Layton Tamberlin?

Layton Tamberlin studied at Keble College, where he received a masters degree in Philosophy and Mathematics in 1998. He then went to work in investment banking at Merrill Lynch in the UK. As his first position, he worked in corporate finance for the mergers and acquisitions. During the four years that he worked there he was involved in day to day transaction management and negotiations, including the acquisition of the Newsquest company by Gannett, and he was among the advisors for the iTouch plc IPO, the acquisition of Rockware Group, and the PHS Group plc IPO. Merrill Lynch was a top tier player in the investment banking and held a reputation for its role in debt underwriting, delivering innovative advice to its clients and being a forerunner in equity securities. When Layton Tamberlin left his position at Merrill Lynch in 2002 he had gained valuable hands-on experience.

After leaving Merrill Lynch, Mr. Tamberlin began working for Stephen Robertson and Manjit Dale as they created TDR Capital, with the backing of Tudor Group. In their first fund, they raised about €550 million, and in 2006 they raised another €2 billion. Layton Tamberlin used his financial knowledge and expertise to help finalize all key acquisitions for the company. Some of those transactions involved firms such as Pearl, PizzaExpress, ASK, Williams Scotsman, Resolution and Algeco. Reportedly, TDR Capital’s IRR was over 70% from the investments made during Layton Tamberlin’s tenure with the firm.

In 2009 Layton Tamberlin stepped out in a different direction and became Chairman of Samedaydoctor. Samedaydoctor is a clinic based in London that is available for walk-in consultations and treatments. The clinic’s highly skilled medical staff includes general practitioners but its real specialty is in the realm of sexual health. The popular clinics have since expanded around the UK, and there are now eight locations that Samedaydoctor either owns or manages. In keeping with the times and making their services more accessible, they recently launched the availability of online services.

Recent Business Ventures

Earlier this year Layton Tamberlin and Richard Sanders pooled their experience and resources and investments to create Sullivan Street Partners. Their new business takes control of UK companies by investing equity of up to £15 million. By focusing on ownership of only 2 – 3 companies at any one time, the partners are able to commit time and work closely with management to improve operations and realize growth.
